Ah the joy of preparing for a long distance outdoor adventure! Jess and I leave for Western North Carolina next Saturday, and that means it’s time for me to make multiple To-Do lists, grocery lists, and best of all, a spreadsheet!
With tons of rain falling on the Rappahannock watershed I let myself get talked away from a 12 foot high Rapp run in order to go chase some tributaries. The Covington, Rush, and Thornton were all running, but we decided to paddle the Covington.
I don’t make a habit of hurling myself off of waterfalls, but I have been known to paddle class V from time to time. Sometimes I even enjoy it. But while I am happy to paddle water that challenges my sanity, I am equally as content to paddle class I-II.
My short revolution at BFR has left me with a frozen reminder that no one in their right mind should be playing in the water today. And yet here I am. It’s way below freezing, and the wind is so cold that the water of the Rappahannock almost seems warm. Almost.
